Cairo's garbage collectors 'the Zabbaleen' have created one of the most efficient recycling systems in the world. They recycle up to 80 percent of what they collect, whereas most private garbage collecting companies can only recycle 20 to 25 percent of the waste that they collect.
The Zabbaleen’s method is efficient but it produces poor living conditions. They suffer from many diseases caused by working and living with garbage. And children do not always attend school since they are needed to work at home.
